You finally did it. You decided to go with that gorgeous red hair color you’ve been seeing on all the runways for fall. Don’t you just love those first few weeks? When it’s so shiny and vibrant that everyone compliments you on your newfound glow?
Maintaining those copper hues can be pretty tricky. But don’t worry, we have a few easy steps you can take to keep you color looking vibrant and help your hair to be healthier than ever.
1. Skip a shampoo (or two). Wash your hair less often. It’s as simple as that. Shampooing less will help keep your hair color intact and save water. Good for your hair, the environment, and your wallet.
2. Be Picky. That hair color is an investment. Protect it! If you’re going to shampoo make sure you’re going with a gentle shampoo and conditioner that’s made specifically for color treated hair. And hey, we may be a little biased, but the Aveda Color Conserve line is one of the best to help extend the life of your color.
3. Try a Pigmented Conditioner. Once a week, swap out your normal (color protecting) conditioner with one that contains color pigments to perk up your hair color.
4. Get Stronger. All the day to day styling can take a toll on the overall health of your hair, and this can also contribute to hair color fading. Schedule an appointment for a deep conditioning or strengthening treatment in between color services or even when you’re in a salon for your service. Trust us, you’re hair will only look better for doing it.
